Razr or E815?

Dollar Bill

New member
Hey there...my contract is almost due so I can get a new phone for my Verizon service...don't know if I want the slick Razr or the E815.

All I really care to do is be able to talk with clarity/reception, take a good picture, be able to use MP3's as ringtones with ease....dont really care about other features, unless one phone can be hacked to do a bunch of cool things.

What would you pick and why? Or is there some other Verizon phone I don't even know about that I should consider?

TIA

OK here is a more indepth Reply to your Post.
I would personally go with the A970 Because you said you needed good pictures and this is the only phone out of the ( razr, Samsung 950 and 815 ) That has a 2 Megapixel Camera. Also

Razr - Does not have a transflash card..So you really can't store much MP3s on there. Razr Is sleek and that is about it - You are in for an adventure with Motorola Phones, Even though verizon has their own interface in it, Motorola Phones are usually unstable when it comes to their software. This is the coolest looking phone out of all of it - But alot of people have the Razr..So people will not be all that Awed by it.

The 815 is a decent phone..and Will be the cheapest out of these phones. It has a nice look, lightweight, has a tranflash card, I've used two of them and both of them worked fine without problems but i know people that had software issues with this phone...So maybe you'll get a good one and maybe you'll get a bad one. Also this phone is kinda Old news - With the 710 and other cheaper phones (V276) that looks like this....You will not have a "new" looking phone..If your into that sorts of thing. And it's not a crowd stopper...Just another ordinary looking phone. But over all value - Price and Usability..This is the phone for you

The 950 - It's an ugly phone to be honest with you..and has the least amount of talk time. People have given very good ratings to this phone out of all the ones mentioned here...but not good for pictures..must be in a well lighted area ( but what do you expect it's a camera phone ) ...It's an ok phone..Don't really reccomend it over 815 or 970

The 970 - best phone in my opinion as stated before...but Very Expensive!! Very good Camera and look - Samsung is much more stable than Motorola ...
It's a Big phone..Especially the Camera part - But what do you expect it's 2 MP - Other than the size of this phone and price..it is highly Recommened.

Take care

i thought that you can't use mp3 as ringtones on most verizon phones.
you have to buy them from vcast and stuff.
i know someone that has a e815 and he can't use mp3 as ringtone unless you buy them or if you 'edit seems'

You have to seem edit but the e815 has the most hacks. Which brings me to the razr which most people in the verizon moto forum are flashing to alltels becuase of the red ui.

Actually now the moto e815 that are currently shipping have the retarted verizon ui on them. So there is no escape (short of T-Mobile, Cingular or (shudder) Sprint).

hmm...not sure. He has the MP3's stored on his simcard...he's a computer nerd so maybe he hacked or something..i dont know. I'll have to find out.

A970 is a little outta my price range...don't want to spend THAT much on the phone. I'm gonna go with the 815 I dropped my 1st phone and the screen went dead...no ins...so i bought a cheap phone off ebay....i just dropped that today and not that screen doesn't work!!! So now I gotta just use this non-working screen phone till I can re-new on April 20th...atleast the screen outside the lid works so I can see who's calling and stuff...just can't read any text messages. I'm definitely getting ins. on my new phone.

I would go with a E815. My wife and I are new Verizon Customers. She has a Pink Razr and I have an E815. She likes the style of the Razr. I like how the E815 works. It also has consistently 1-2 more bars of service, better UI, better hacks, "flash" for the camera, and transflash card support (buy a 512mb card off of newegg for $39)

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all that info....is the 970 as hackable as the E815? Can the 970 use MP3's for ringtones like the E815 can? Besides the 2MP camera...wonder if there's anything better about the 970 vs E815 to warrant the extra $$$

If it's between the Razr and the E815, the E815 is a better all around phone. Better reception (for me), better camera, transflash card, and the crippled Bluetooth is at least hackable. The phone isn't as elegant as the Razr, but it's very functional.

As you probably know, Verizon's disabled a lot of the features on their phones to force people to use their for pay services instead. As a work around, wallpaper can be copied to the E815 via the transflash card. However, though MP3's can be copied to the phone via the transflash card, they can't be used as ringtones unless the phone is hacked, and that requires a USB cable ($30 from Motorola).

Verizon does have better phones than the E815 (the Samsung A970, for one), but there's not a better multimedia phone in this price range (free, for me).

I guess my friend hacked his phoen cuz he's using MP3's as his ringtones for people on his list (his ring for me is Corona - Rhythm of the Night )

Besides having a 2.0MP camera...whats better about the A970 over the E815?

you can also send them in a message to an number or address that doesnt exist and when it comes back it will be in the phone cards memory and then you can save it and use it as a ringtone.. all without seem editing.
peace

I am also deciding between the RAZR and the e815. One thing the RAZR seems to have that the e815 doesn't is a battery-only charger. You can buy a spare battery, plug it into the wall and switch out the batteries without ever having to charge the phone or having the phone dead.

You can buy a extra battery and use the motorola dual charger for the battery and phone of course the dual charger is not made for the usb phones (razr and v325) and you use your phones charger to plug into the wall and the charger but it can do what you said above for the e815,v265,v276,v710 and a few others.
