Having owned both I would like to help those trying to decide which to buy.
Rayman----------------------------------
The Good: Rayman has excellent graphics. The game has a lot of attitude, and can be a real riot sometimes. Most games control well. It is an arm killer at points. LOVE the tracing and music games.
The Bad: I dont care much for the "Rad Dude" kinda thing going, eg, dressing a cartoon character up in hip/hop clothes, disco clothes, etc. The 'loading' screens are annoying, and switching games is a PIA. Also you have to work through the game to start unlocking the mini games. Once you do, the mini game interface is garbage. Also cant play it without nunchuck, even though you dont always need it. Also some parts are static, meaning they are pre-rendered and are nothing more than an image that you just speed up by moving faster, and the polygon rendered characters are layed over it. Feels cheap.
Monkey Ball------------------------------
The Good: Feels like a quality product. Graphics are good, perfectly placed for the game. Interface is near perfect. Game starts, first option is Mini Games. All games are selected by a large circle of 50 games. The detail and preview info lets you smoke through it. Can play it with/without nunchuck. Single play mode is fun and challenging. Single play is seperate from Mini Games. Also lets the current loser in a multiplayer (overall points) choose the next mini game. Some mini-games are long, 5-10 minutes depending on game.
The Bad: Some mini games are hard to control, making you not want to do them anymore (FUCKING ROCK/PAPER/SCISSORS DIE!!!). Also I have lost my control on some mini games before (Sheep Herding, Slingshot). Dont like having to re-enter my name everytime i get a high score.
Conclusion-----------------------------
Both have ups and downs, but a bad interface on a game really kills the joy for me. Im a Nokia nazi for their simplistic menus, love my ipod, etc. Something about Rayman I cant like, it feels like its trying to hard with the 'Xtreme Cartoon' style. Feels very 3rd party ish, while Monkey Ball feels very nintendo/sega'ish.
