Okay, I want to clarify something regarding Elie... This is the first time I have ever seen Rave Master. I have never seen Groove Advenure Rave. That being said, Elie is probably one of the worst dubbed characters in Anime history, right up there with 4KiRAB Ussop & Joe from the Digimon dub. The reason I rip into her is for the constant of bad jokes like...
"The farthest I've ever been is west, which isn't very far north!"
"It's not like Muzica is a common name like Black or Smith. Blacksmith? See what I did?"
And the immortal...
"Haru, give him a doggie biscuit or better yet, one of those rawhide chews!"
They're not funny and really kill any mood the scene had at that point. Of course, I don't blame her but the guy writing this, Bob Buchholz. He may be good as Gene Starwind but was probably one of the worst dub writers in history. The only good dub he did was Bobobo and that's because his jokes actually fit the mood of the series.
The reason I keep comparing to Orihime is that's a good example of a female character in a shonen that's funny.
But I'm only bashing dub Elie since she has the worst jokes AND is a main character so the pain doesn't seem to end until the series. I'm pretty sure the japanese version doesn't have her think Kari The Digger is a mole or try to play a rhyming game while she's held captive but I'm dealing with the dub. And if I say something like...
It's all in good humor a la MST3K and shouldn't be taken seriously. I come to these threaRAB as a comedian and making jokes is what I do.

DepenRAB on the situation. For all the Starz/Manga-Ent stuff, that probably comes free, I doubt that CPM can afford to pay SciFi, so that was either gotten on the cheap or free, but for Rave Master, I doubt that the rights holders would pay to put it on air, so I'd guess at worst it was cheap, and at best free.

No, being your mentor, I give rewarRAB for things for when you do smart things and punish you when you do durab things. Only an idiot would actually like Rave Master and I KNOW YOU'RE SMARTER THAN THAT, BOY!

I wouldn't say she's quite as bad as Ussop, but since Bucholz worked on Digimon too, there's an erie similarilty to how obnoxious Elie and Joe are. How does Bucholz chose which character to give the most annoying lines to, anyway?
No, the Japanese version has those. They're just scripted differently and thus are less painful. (particularly the word game.)

That dub is faithful to the core material and characters, unlike butcheries such as Rave Master or One Piece or Cardcaptors. Hell, I bet the dub writers treat Orihime better than the actual creator.
