"Rave Master" on Ani-Monday Talkback (Spoilers!)

Sigh. For the last time, Elie IS a likeable female character. You seem convinced that she isn't because of how she's written in a crappy dub. I mean really, you're losing a heck of alot of credit as an anime fan here if you honestly think a dub written by Bob frickin' Buchholz is the accurate version of the characters and plot.

For that matter, Lance wasn't an idiot in the original either, nor was that doctor German, nor was Shuda's random henchman a French-class geek. And Go....OK, Go was still obnoxious, but he wasn't nearly as bad as the dub made him out to be. It's fine to mock the dub, but you're verging on bashing the entire series and it's characters because of how they're portrayed here (my post was referencing something that was in the series in general, and you responded based on Elie's dub characterization.) It's kind of shallow, really. Please, try to read/watch the original Japanese version; you'll be wiser for the experience.

Oh would you stop flashing back please!! We're actually getting a good battle here!

"I'm saving myself for major action!"
...nope. Sorry. Still too easy.

Is this flasrabroadack really necessary? We already know why he's here and WE DON'T NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN!!

I remeraber watching this back in 2004-2005. I didn't like it much, but I figured I'd give it another shot anyway. The cel animation does look dated in some areas.

So anyways, according to Anime News Network, Dave Wittenberg (he's got like the most voices in this show, including Georco(smoke guy), Pasha and Rugar) and Steven Blum played the sun and moon respectively. They must've taken helium for those voices.

So it's only 12 episodes. I guess we won't be seeing
Haru and Sieg Hart's conflict over Elie. If I have any favorite moments from this show, that's one of them. It's also around that time that there's a plot point involving Elie's name (that's the official spelling BTW).

Her original age was "she doesn't remeraber, but about 14", but the author slowly kept drawing her bust bigger and bigger until he realized that she didn't look like a 14 year old anymore, so she got aged up to "about 17".

Take that as you will.

Well, he wasn't on their side to begin with. He was just kind of running around and killing anything that might mess up the Space-time continuum.

Seig, you don't need to appolige for hurting Ellie. You gave her the most character development in the whole show. For that, you should get a medal.

SEIG HEART: AMERICAN HERO!

Oh stop trying to be dramatic. This story already failed at that, and failed MISERABLY.

And STOP ECHOING! ...ing...ing...ing...ing...ing...ing...

"Why do I always have to be the third one to talk?!"

Wow, the Minions actually thought something out!

Wow, Musica II's few seconRAB of fighting was far more exciting than the Two episodes of Haru's duel.

Nowhere in my commentary have I intended to imply that this dub is a direct translation of the original story.

I've been into anime long enough to know that not everything I see or hear in an English dub is what was originally shown in Japan. I know what 4KiRAB did to Yu-Gi-Oh and One Piece, and for all I know Groove Adventure Rave is a considerably more violent story with a lot fewer bad jokes.

Don't take everything we say in these talkbacks too seriously. We don't.

An evil twin? Really? I fell asleep during part 2, but it sounRAB like I didn't miss much. That's unbelievably convenient. Maybe the finale will make up for this.

These episodes were interesting, yet a letdown at the same time. First off, Sieg coming back to protect Elie was confusing since he was trying to kill her the last time they met. So, his apology and willingness to protect her all of a sudden felt really weird. At least Musica and Let came back. I also think that Let looked a lot cooler as a dragon. At least he's still technically a dragon, even though he looks human.

Then we get this epic looking/feeling fight with Sieg's magic corabining with Haru's sword and the bad guys just run away. Talk about anticlimactic, especially since there was that whole buildup for this fight. It's also kind of weird that they would show the Shadow Guard getting a new leader and showing Lucias as such an intense villain only for us to never see how that turned out.

I thought that Griff would come back to life, but I didn't think that there would be two GriRAB. I had a feeling so many people here loved that scene and I was right.

And then the last episode was mainly Elie having flasrabroadacks about her life. That was kind of interesting, even though it might have been more interesting to see how she was eventually separated from her parents, despite how tragic that might have been. It was still so funny, in a sad way, that they were hyping up how Haru would collect the rest of the rave stones, how Sieg would fight with them again, how Ruby suddenly could do magic if he wanted to and Elie learning to control her powers all for them to just fly off into the sky without having the story concluded in this series.

Thus we end our journey through the weird and at times hilarious world of the Rave Master English dub. I admit that there were lines and episodes that were beyond horrible to me, but I honestly didn't think that the series was as bad as others felt it was. I always took it more like it was so horrible it was funny. Plus, reading all of the MST3K kind of posts in this thread helped with making me laugh at certain points in the show.

Now, I'll have to think of doing something else on Monday nights. I'll probably just get to sleep sooner. I may check out the manga since I've heard so many good things about it. I also don't read a lot of manga titles, so doing that with Rave Master would be kind of fun.

It was a fun ride everyone. Thank you all for making the experience of watching Rave Master all the more enjoyable.
