Rare movies you have stumbled upon....

Yes, it's a great film. Saw it on TV a while back having failed to catch it at the cinema. Don't know why it didn't do better, it was smart, stylish and funny.
 
My Favourite Year is a blast from the past which I really enjoyed.
Another film that I came across years ago without knowing anything about it was Breakaway which I watched one summer evening simply because I had absolutely nothing else to do and was completely blown away by it. I've not seen it again in over 20+ years and have always been wary of watching it again tbh in case I feel let down by it now if that makes any sense?!?!?
 
Some Voices was on Film4 the other day, about a man with mental issues (Daniel Craig) in the care of his stressed brother (David Morrissey) I enjoyed it!

There's a fab period/comedy-drama adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson's unfinished novel called St. Ives, Richard E Grant, Anna Friel, brilliant for lovers of pride and prejudice vs. sharpe!

The Rookie, with Charlie Sheen and Clint Eastwood is another, early 90s shoot-out fest. Widely panned I think, but I like it!

Also Le Divorce by Merchant Ivory I like very much. Set in France, stellar cast - just sort of bumbles casually along. Also, if we're going for European ambles, My House in Umbria with Dame Maggie Smith and the late great Ronnie Barker is good, and also Under the Tuscan Sun! Perfect for lazy summer evenings!
 
My husband got me Cronos for Christmas as I'm learning Spanish - I was a bit worried about watching it as it's and 18 and the blurb made it look really scary, in fact I really enjoyed it.

Not sure this will count as a rare movie, but I saw Dogma by chance on Sky one night, I'd never heard of it and I enjoyed it so much I bought it and love it.
 
I saw The Music of Chance on tv some years back, it's the one with the card game and the wall-building isn't it? Quite a strange little film.

There's some great cult films that seem to be shown over and over late night on BBC1 and BBC2.

Some of my faves:

House of Games - Fantastic Mamet film, quite similar to Music of Chance.

A Boy and his Dog - Don Johnson and a telepathic dog in a post nuclear wasteland.

Runaway Train - Jon Voight on, well, a runaway train.

Ride with the Devil - Peter Fonda in a motorhome being chased by satanists.
 
Flashpoint with Kris Kristoffersen, hired it years ago on my holiday. Still one of the best films I've seen, possibly because it was a film I stumbled upon, but then maybe not! But don't read the synopsis if you want to enjoy it more!

Music by Tangerine Dream too!
 
After Life

A Chinese movie about people who have died and arrive in an inbetween room before going to eternity.

Here they are asked what memory they would like to take with them to the afterlife. This memory is then recreated for them and this memory stays with them forever.

It's wonderful to see how people chose their memory and for what reasons.

A beautiful movie, with a lasting impression.
 
its a really unique movie, the first time i watched it i didnt really concentrate much on it but when i watched it later i thought it was brilliant
 
Great film, I remember first seeing it on BBC2 and then taping it about 10 years ago year when it was finally shown again, then I got it on Region 1 DVD a couple of years ago.
