Rand Paul - "accidents happen" WTF??

I don't think I agree with his BP defense. While I agree they shouldn't be facing legal repercussions, they can most certainly be held liable for their negligence (supposing the courts determine the oil spill resulted from negligence).

Also, the coal mine that he defends had been cited for over 800 federal safety violations in a matter of 16 months. To dismiss the roof collapse and the deaths as two miners as a mere "accident" is stupid. Regardless of what you think about federal regulation, the fact that this particular mine had been cited so many times is pretty indicative that such an incident was a foreseeable consequence, and therefore not an accident at all, but rather the result of good old fashioned negligence.

thats funny cuz for the people who keep screaming that gov't should stay out of private biz and less regulation...well..you got it and look what happened.

thats why I made that thread tiltled: GOVT SHOULD STAY OUT OF PRIVATE BUSINESS..NOW WHEN IS GOVT GOING TO CLEAN THIS SHIT UP??

seems like people want it both ways.

one word: negligence. that accident was totally avoidable. Did they mean for it to happen on purpose, no but they caused it..did they do everything in their power to make sure something like that couldn't happen? no.

Do YOU think they did everything they could to avoid that incident?

Blah, blah, blah ... and not ENOUGH Obama supporters make a big deal about:

1. TENS OF THOUSANDS of people killed in the 2 wars since he took office.
2. the danger to the environment because of those wars.
3. the negative impact to scores of small businesses in that region because of those wars.
4. the potential negative impact on the people who'll come into contact with all that toxic war related shit in trying to clean it up.

As for "rookie mistakes", just SAVE IT. With NO executive experience other than "community organizer", Obama made SHITLOADS of "rookie mistakes" not only in running his campaign, but more importantly as President. Hell, with his "I've been to 57 states so far" comment, he has made "5 year old mistakes".

if the govt is there, they are responsible. End of story. Govt is supposed to protect us from "greedy, shady, etc... businesses"

How do you get the argument that this was the responsibility of "less regulation" ? the regulation that was there didn't do it's job.

Well because the private company really doesn't have the ability to clean this up. It's way too big, it will include a lot of different federal, state, local laws and groups. The federal govt is the perfect organization to organize the cleanup.

hmm, wonder when we will get to discussing the exemption for BP for that location?

An accident of that magnitude was prone to happen when BP was ignoring safety regulations right?

Not quite "accident" you asshole.

I can't believe Republicans are blaming the government on this reaction and then saying blaming BP would be unAmerican. Aren't these idiots against government intervention?

If this is BP fault, shouldn't BP be fully responsible for the clean up?

Are Republicans that stupid?

god damn..even you agree

I think chris matthews is correct in his assessment of Paul.. he's a philosopher and purist and philosophers shouldn't run for office.

since he took over what..oh thats right two wars started by the previous administration. One of which is ahead of schedule in troop withdrawal and the other which has been more effective in killing terrorist leaders in the last year and a half than in the previous seven.

And his rookie mistake in talking to much was the "cling to guns and religion" line which the media ate his lunch for him on (yet no one denied was true).

But all of that is just deflection. The thread is about rand paul and his fucked up attitude which seems to support bug business shitting on the little guy.

You just ridiculed the importance of that safety device and look at you now. Backpedalling like the typical retard you are.

If there's no govt intervention, the company is 100% responsible because they are following only their own guidelines. BUT if the govt comes in and says you must do this, this, this, and this in order to drill. And the company FOLLOWS those regulations, then they are doing everything that is required. So either the regulations aren't enough or it was simply just a fucked up thing that happens.

BP is financially responsible, yes. But do you really think they are in a better position to run the clean up ?

yes because mccain and palin would have done a better job..

and instead of hopey changey we'd have all that mavericky shit happening
