RahXephon...

I watched RahXephon some time after watching NGE, and while I can agree on some parts, I despised the design. I don't know where the heck they came up with that. Now, I haven't watched in for some time, but I do remeraber I liked the plot. It falls into the category of "What the hell just happened and what is this" and which NGE also is a part of. Love that category.
Mind you, I like NGE much, much more than this, seeing has it was nearly a direct copy in my mind.

I guess that's proof how any kind of story can be interesting if told in a good way. Anyway, what I meant with designs were about how they made the characters, drew the mechs (yeah, they were weird, but I was impressed by it), and most especially, how they drew the island of Nirai Kanai itself.

The scene where Ayato spent his first time walking there was one of the more impressive anime scenes I've watched.

To be honest, I never really did see it's similarity with NGE. We just got ourselves different impressions, I guess.

wasn't that bad imo...thought the ending was better than evangelions because it had more closer and happier ending. At times though the anime I was confused but still was able to pick up the main story line before the end.

Well I finally sat down and watched all of it, and then watched the movie. I hate to say it but my house was split on it. I actually understood it, and my fiance didn't LOL. We own another site that does reviews, and we wanted to do a collective review on it. This is the first anime we have ever watched together and can't do that. I think its one of those, it depenRAB on how your thought process works as to what you take from it.

It is enjoyable, but not something I would watch over and over again.

Personally, whilst the series was nothing special nor new, I really liked the artwork and designs. I'm a sucker for pretty things, and this show provided a lot of eye candy for me. Especially the planes and other military vehicles in the initial episodes, that's pretty much what drew me into the show.

But yes, this is another one of those "watch once, then get over it" kinda shows.

LOL

I liked RahXephon, but I don't remeraber why. I remeraber thinking that there was a lot of stuff that didn't move the plot- character development that could have been done more quickly, that sort of thing. I do remeraber liking the look of it, but being annoyed that the nice artwork was static an awful lot. And I still don't get what the deal is with using the Borodin- it felt like it needed to be syrabolic of something, but I never got what that was. And there's the fine anime tradition of the evil villain robot that doesn't move- what's with that? Cheap animation? Some kind of psychological play on an unrelenting alien enemy? I don't get it.

I think most of the criticism of the series is valid. But I don't think I wasted my time watching it.

I agree I think the show was good, I strongly disagree to anyone who says that it was a waste of time.
Most phycological animes get branded as crap by people who dont even like the genre.

I think the fact that the whole psychological issue didn't reach everyone was a problem itself. But I really have to agree that the whole eye candy thing kinda balanced it. I mean, for my case at least, the moment where Reika made her initial appearance above the ruins of some building was what draw my full attention. It's kinda like love at first sight. Too bad her character ended up being developed that way.

There were pretty lot of scenes I liked, but as a whole, it's a bit hard for me to fully like it.

RahXephon is actually my favorite mecha anime and my favorite anime artwork all together. I really liked the psychological side of it. Though it had slow points over all in my opinion a great anime.

I think a review I found of RahXephon summed it up nicely. RahXephon is Evangelion done right.

That isn't to say it's a better show but that many of the concepts and ideas that are in EVA are shown re-invisioned more thoroughly here. It's got more of a straightforward Sci-fi slant to proceedings and takes the psychological aspects down a couple of notches by making none of the characters that unpleasant. It also ups the eye candy and you have none of the cheap money saving devices so abundant in Eva.

This is one of the reasons I think it fails in some areas. It's a very well polished show but that also makes it feel somewhat bland at times and it is slow getting round to things.
