Has anyone here gone for Radiofrequency Neurotomy in their lower back and if so did it give you relief? My bf is scheduled for a trial injection to see if the nerves coming out of the facet joints are causing his pain. If the injection works, the pm doctor wants to do this procedure. I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks so much.

Hi! I have had the radiofrequency ablation done several times. It really helps with my pain! I have it done at L3, L4 and L5 facet joints where I have bad arthritis. I had the testing done and my doctor recommended the RFA. It lasts about 8 months for me, and it can be repeated. The procedure takes about 45 minutes, and is done with light sedation. Each level is "burned" for about 90 seconRAB. AfterwarRAB you are sore for a few days. Then for a couple weeks you can go about your business, but I have to take breaks throughout the day and ice/take medicine. After about 3 weeks you really feel the pain relief. I hope your bf gets some relief! Let us know how it goes. Take care, Kera4

I had radiofrequency ablation done on my right side about a month ago. My right side has always been the worst, but right before they did the right side I hurt my left side really really bad. I did go ahead with the right side and I have no regrets. It was not as painful as the injections and I got some relief. The pain has not gone away completely but the pain level has decreased. I am going to do the test injection on my left side soon and probably going to do the ablation in two weeks if this helps. You are not losing anything by getting this done. You could only be helped.

Thanks for the responses. My bf is going for the medial branch nerve blocks today. If that works then he will go back in 3 weeks for the radiofrequency neurotomy.

My bf did have 2 discs removed and he is fused. Did either of you or anyone else here go for this treatment even after the fusion surgeries? And if so, did it help? I am just curious because I hope the fusion isn't in the way of this treatment working. The pm doctor didn't seem to think it would be a problem.

Thanks and wish us luck. He is at his wits end already.
