Radio Won't Work In A 1999 Buick Regal?

My mom bought a 1999 Buick Regal, Well, My dad saw that the terminals on the battery were corroded he took of the cables and cleaned them, now the radio won't work! Everything else, like the power windows and interior lights work, but not the radio. When she went to the Buick dealership to see how to get it fixed, she was told she'd have to get a new radio, so wouldn't she need a new one every time she has to get a new battery? Another person told her that all she needs to to get the security code, but it will cost her around $180, is this for real? How can we get it to work without all this trouble?

When you remove the power going to the radio it locks the radio up, you will need the code are it will never work again, on some cars you can enter the defualt code of ooooo and it will unlock the radio, but you may have to buy a aftermaket radio to replace it with.
