I wanted to create this thread so that we could discuss animated programs that radically change their plot over the course of the series. I realize that there may not be a whole lot of them, but I?ll get things started by using ?Brandy & Mr. Whiskers? as an example.
In the first season of ?Brandy & Mr. Whiskers?, the plot revolved around Brandy Harrington and Mr. Whiskers as they attempted to get back home, all the while struggling to adapt to life in the Amazon. Brandy Harrington, who was used to living life in Palm Beach, also attempted to civilize the animals and introduce concepts such as currency and fashion, but the animals seldom did things as she expected.
However, the second season changed all of that. Not only did Brandy Harrington and Mr. Whiskers stop trying to get back home, all of the animals suddenly became technologically advanced. Despite the fact that they had no idea about such things in the first season, the second season claimed that they had such things all along. They had amusement parks. They had concerts. They had currency. They had malls. They had schools. They had everything that defeated the purpose of the series. I would have used my suspension of disbelief in order to claim that they became technologically advanced due to Brandy Harrington?s attempts to educate them in the first season, but it was revealed that the animals were always technologically advanced and merely refused to tell Brandy Harrington in the first season.
I doubt most people on this forum ever watched the series, but one of the things that I liked was seeing the characters deal with life in the Amazon. It wasn?t supposed to be easy. The whole point of Brandy Harrington being a rich stuck-up pooch was that the Amazon was supposed to take her out of her element, all the while being paired with her practical opposite. However, that purpose was ruined in the second season. The Amazon suddenly became the apex of civilization and was more-or-less better than the Palm Beach home that Brandy Harrington had once longed to return to.
I don?t understand why they made such a radical departure. I liked the second season, as they used the characters in a better fashion, but the second season completely destroyed the purpose of the entire series.
If anybody else has seen this series, feel free to express your thoughts on this specific issue, though you?re also more than welcome to discuss other animated programs that radically departed from their established plot.
