my friend thinks everyone is a little bit racist. he thinks that by knowing about, but not necessarily believing, racial stereotypes, you are racist. i think that there is a difference in being stereotypical and racist. i stereotype blondes, just like i do white business men and african american gang members. BUT i dont believe the stereotype, and i feel equally happy for the african american business men and just as scared of the white gang member. basically i think racism is hatred or discrimination based only on race, and that a stereotype of a race is just that, a stereotype, not necessarily true. my friend thinks that you dont have to hate or feel superior to a race to be racist. what do you think?

I disagree with your friend. I still use the old fashioned definition of racism. Hitler was a racist. Hitler believed that one race was inherently superior to others. If a person does not believe in a race being superior to others, then there are better adjectives to use than racist.

In the last few years, many people have been using the word racist when the words prejudiced or bigoted would be more accurate.

I would like to consider myself not racist, but the truth is, we all slip into some of those racist behaviors without realizing it
generally what I consider racism is putting down a person that you dont even know based on their race or skin color
