Ever made a racial joke to one of your friends of a different race but it went horribly wrong and they found it offensive? What did you say?

Why do they put cotton in the tops of medication
bottles?
-To remind black people that they were cotton pickeres before they were drug dealers.

oh please Black people dont shoot me, dont shoot me!!!!! no!!!!!!!

Mine wasn't meant to be a joke... more of a statement. I just didn't think about how it would sound until after I said it. We were in freshman history two years ago and we were talking about how the United States was a melting pot. I looked at Florida and thought of how incredibly sun-burnt I had gotten after vacation and said, "It's pretty ironic how the bottom of a pot is usually burnt too." My Puerto Rican friend looks over at me and glares then the entire class starts laughing including the teacher at the unintentionally racist remark... I later had to explain myself to my teacher... I also didn't think anyone had heard me.

Tell them it's a joke and to get over it. I usually try to relate it to a dead baby joke.

Dead baby jokes are funny because they are offensive, my favorite is:
-What's the difference between a dead baby and a sandwich?
-Give up?....I don't have s3x with a SANDWICH before I eat it!!

Now obviously I don't have s3x with dead babies, just like I obviously don't think if I throw a basket ball it will stop five black guys from raping a white girl.... It's just stupid and offensive...but funny.

So that's what i tell them, and it usually leaves them with the "WHAT" look on their face....and then I change the subject.

No. When you make an offensive joke, someone is bound to find it offensive. All you can do is apologize for offending him.

Yeah I had a black coworker come up to me and ask me how work was going, without thinking I said "they working me like a slave" then did the whip crack noise with hand gesture. I felt like an idiot.

No I never joke about anyones race...that would be insulting to them and their culture.

When telling a racist joke, follow up with one about your own race. That seems to get a laugh without offending, because they see that it IS just a joke and you can take what you dish. :)

No, cause I don't do racial jokes. Sure they're funny and mean no harm (2 most ppl), but are very childish.
