Racial humour...ISN'T HUMOUR.

Well, using the word "Jew" to indicate stupid is racist as hell. Now, in all honesty, to joke about someone being frugal and using the term to say so, well... most Jewish folks are just raised to save a nickel. (Probably why so many are so wealthy ;) ). I'm sure there are not-so-thrifty Jews, and perhaps even broke ones, so yeah, I suppose you'd be stereotyping to claim them all that way but still. When the majority of a group is that way then it's hard to not do it.

Now, I'm not saying that people can use this logic on other nationalities and generalizations, especially negative ones. I guess, my grandmother and all my great aunts and uncles are Jewish (my mother's side) and I feel comfortable saying this because it's been said all the time in my family... so it might be a bit of the race calling each other something others outside shouldn't. I know it's all wrong, but I guess it's different when calling the kettle black is fine because to put someone else down for something you are is not really insulting them. I am confused... I'll stop now.

DullBullet, I'm just curious if you meant to infer that you were a Muslim extremist. You used the term then kept saying "we". Or did you just mean Muslim when you were using "we". Just curious, it just took me back a second.

Haha, no, the extremists are dicks in my opinion. I was just saying that I was Muslim.

Anyway, I guess that saying the truth about things is funny sometimes, I was just sick of hearing the words "Jew" used against everything. (THe math problem was an example...)

It seems that the terms racism and stereotyping are being confused.

racism

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

stereotype

A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.

There is no such thing as a racist joke, racism by nature is discriminatory/abusive/aggressive, however poking fun at stereotypes is all cool as long as the person understands the joke.

I am a true bigot when it comes to racists, I loved the movie, "Crash," stereotypes are all so fucking stereotypical. I'm never ever, ever opinionated, anal, insensitive, homophobic, rascist, or sarcastic, I never slam anyone for their race or sexuality, and this thread is gay.

:D

Some stereotype jokes are fun. Besides, everybody's stereotyping...
"All gothics cut themselves."
"All emo's are fags."
Etc.

Here in Holland we have these jokes about Belgians and Germans, are they corny? Yes. Are they funny? Sometimes.

I don't mind jokes about black people, jews, mentally disabled as long as it's just for a laugh. When people start to discriminate or have fundamental ideas about those stereotypes ("ALL ARABS ARE CRIMINALS!!!!!!111eleven"), then they are completely wrong and should be shot.

But that's just my opinion.

Some stereotypes can be funny (who doesn't love a good blonde joke), but even there, they can get old.

Racial stereotypes however, are not, for the most part, funny. They are hurtful and ignorant. There are exceptions - like the ones between friends, and used as a form of comraderie. For a while we lived in a mostly Irish neighborhood, and the fellows would call each other "Mickey", but get offended if anyone else did it.

My ex used to call himself a kike, and it bugged the shit out of me. He did it as a form of self-defense - saying it before anyone else might. I thought it helped to perpetuate the derogatory connotation, and asked him not to do it.

There are a lot of folks who use terms like that, not even knowing what they actually mean. I have a friend who used to whisper "mexican" because, until she moved to this state, she'd never met anyone who wasn't caucasian, and thought it was a slur. Good grief.

I only know about this because it was explained to me by the man that married my aunt... he is Jewish.

People who usually refer to something as "Jewish" in a degrading manner such as a math problem, or a videogame, is actually going back to an old stereotype about how the Jewish are thought to be "very cheap". And when you ask them for any type of money, their buttholes supposedly pucker up tighter than Madonna is old (at this point). So when "that ledge" won't let you up on to it, or "that math problem" won't squeeze it's way through to an answer, it becomes "Jewish".

As a last note I would just like to add that:
A: I am not Jewish
B: I am not racist either.

Dutch joke:

"Q: Why does a Belgian has tiny bits of paper in his car?
A: So he can take shortcuts while driving."

(Why? Our stereotype about Belgians is that they're dumb.)

Belgian joke:

"Q: How do you get twenty Dutchman in a taxi?
A: Throw one Euro in the care."

(Their stereotype is that all Dutchies are greedy)

Offending? I think not.

Another example:

A German, Belgian, Turk and Dutchman are in a plane. When they fly over the pacific, the pilot allows them to throw something they have a lot out of the plane.
The German throws a bratwurst out of the plane and says "We have a lot of this in Germany"
The Belgian throws out some fries out of the plane and says "We have a lot of this in Belgium."
The Dutchman picks up the Turk and throws him out of the plane and says "We have a lot of them in Holland."

Is this really offending? Well, in my eyes, it's not.

Things like discriminating Turks or negro's or even women for all I care is offending.

I've never heard the word Jewish used in place of the word stupid, but you hear people do that with the word gay ALL the time. It's very annoying. Really, that sort of crap just shows lack of vocabulary to me, but that's just me.

My teenagers are constantly correcting their friends when they say brilliant things like, "Oh my god, that game's gay." At least, my kids have the common sense to recognize an idiotic statement when they hear one. I mean, they let me know every day when I say something idiotic, why not enlilghten their own friends too.

I think of all the racist/sexist/bigoted terms that has become accepted as a substitute for the word stupid....uhm, gay is the most popular one.

I do not se your example of the math problem connection to the jewish community. If you gave an example in this thread then there might be some thing to respond to. here let me show you: " Why did beaners invent the low rider?

Because they wanted to cruise and pick cabbage at the same time ... "

Hey, its just an example that I am asking for....
