We all have favorite lyricists, but I know some of you have to have a favorite poet who doesn't sing nearly as much as the others on your list.

I love Shel Silverstein. Okay, he's a songwriter too. But what he's remembered most for are his poems and books, which range from plain silly to inspirational to deep to highly disturbing, not to mention his illustrations which make the poems even better.

MQ: Who is your favorite lyricist?
BQ: Post your favorite song from your favorite lyricist and your favorite poem from your favorite poet.

My favorite poet would probably either be, Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac or maybe Allen Ginsburg.

My favorite lyricist would possibly be Jeff Mangum (of Neutral Milk Hotel), Woody Guthrie or Ian Curtis (of Joy Division)

Poets:
Bukowski- My Father

Kerouac - Ode to a Tijuana Toilet (and on the road not a poem but a favorite of mine

Allen Ginsburg - Howl

Lyricists:
Magnum - Holland , 1945

Guthrie - Linbergh or Hard Travelin' or Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy

Curtis: Isolation or She's Lost Control
