It's about the same as the 8125, but it is slower than the treos running palmos. The startup time is my biggest complaint, but since the phone so rarely (if ever, I haven't seen one yet on the E62, unlike the E61 with the original firmware) crashes, it doesn't bother me. I've had to wait on it exactly twice since I got the phone. Once when I first bought it, and once when I needed to use the SIM in my data card.
BTW, it's very thin, unlike the HTC phones, which are like carrying a brick in your pocket, IMO. If it were wide and thick, it would be a problem, but since it's not, it fits nicely in pockets. In fact, on my newer pairs of jeans with the large watch pockets, it fits well in that.
It's very obvious from the review that the reviewer knew absolutely nothing about the platform and didn't bother to put any real use to the phone. If the reviewer had done that, it would have been a far different review. I suppose it's also possible the reviewer had a bad unit, what with the complaints about the speakerphone, which has never been anything short of excellent for me, both on the E61 and the E62, the joystick and the keyboard.
I'm wondering which QWERTY phone the reviewer has used that is easier to use one handed, as I would certainly love to see it.
Hell, it puts out better quality (but mono) sound than the w600i, which has several speakers.
The only way the phone would have bogged down playing a 100Kbit/s 3gp is if it were somehow out of spec. I've played all kinds of video on both the E61 and the E62 and the only time I've had problems are when I'm using a video that Nokia claims not to support, and even then it usually works.
Also, had the reviewer procured a headset adapter, they would have had success using whatever headphones they liked. Perhaps the E61/2 are too smart for their own good, I think so!
I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, since the only other WiFi phone I've gotten a chance to use for very long is the 8125, but browsing with EDGE with a decent signal is pretty much the same as using WiFi on the 8125. A little slower, but not much.
One thing I will complain about until the end of time is the idiotic GPRS and EDGE bandwidth limitations in RealPlayer, both on the E61 and E62. The f'ing thing can only be turned up to accept at most an 80.60kbps stream. It wasn't as bad on the E61, since it could be set to around a megabit for WiFi streaming, which is plenty for the 320x240 screen, but there's no reason in the world RealPlayer shouldn't be able to go up to at least 120kbps over EDGE. I used to do that on my 6682 and my 6230 without any trouble, except when signal strength was a problem or the network was very congested.
I am in complete agreement with the reviewer's statement that the E61 is worth another $50, and I'd go so far as to say it's worth $100 more than the E62. It's not worth the over $300 more I would have had to pay to replace my E61 with another E61 instead of the E62, though! Orb over WiFi, VoIP, and printing are worth a lot, but not that much, especially as short a time as I tend to keep phones.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate people who are willing to spend the time to write up their experiences with a phone. Without them, it's impossible to tell which phones are worth buying. I just don't like it when the person seems not to have used the phone very much, as it defeats the purpose.
