How do you create quotes? can someone help?.

Do you type anything with this symbol at the beginning " and the end" i am asking because in some movies at the beginning they have quotes, and was wondering how important are they?.

I sort of created a quote, its a bit strong i think but let me know what you guys think.

I am asking how important are quotes in movies? what do they mean> i watched the movie Passion of the Christ and it has quotes at the beginning, the same with The Da Vinci Code and so on.
