"Quirky" Characters

Everybody loves those characters that are different and unusual and "quirky" in some way. Just wondering which everybody's favourite "alternative" characters are.

I love The Joker, Willy Wonka and Sweeney Todd in particular.

Your views?

Blimey, I would call them a little more scary than quirky :D

Can't think of any quirkies right now, but will be back with some.

Joe Pesci as Vincent 'Vinny' Gambini in 'My Cousin Vinny'

Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall in 'As Good as It Gets'

Johnny Depp as Cpt. Jack Sparrow in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'

Goldie Hawn as Judy Benjamin in 'Private Benjamin'

Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther films

Chief Dan George as Old Lodge Skins in 'Little Big Man'

Steve Buscemi (Mr.Pink in Reservoir Dogs),always plays a quirky character, and does them all brilliantly.I absolutely loved his character in Fargo, where he was in tandem with Peter Stormare, another quirky character actor.Their interaction (or lack of it) was just hilarious.Buscemi was saying a hundred worRAB a minute as usual, and Stormare would just chime in with an occasional deadpan half sentence. Also, quirky extraordinaire William H. Macy had the lead role.If you want quirky, just watch a Coen brothers film!

Also David Lynch films have many a quirky character.Grace Zabriske (the woman with the crutch) in Blue Velvet was downright bloody scary!

Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka.

Very strange character, but he was the kind of strange you wanted to hug.

I also liked Tia Dalma/Calypso in Pirates of the Caribbean, Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality, Edward ScissorhanRAB, Damien and Janis in Mean Girls (the only teen movie that was ever any good), and Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films.

I did mean Wild At Heart, not Blue Velvet.I don't know if you could describe the Dennis Hopper character in Blue Velvet and Willem Defoe in Wild At Heart as quirky,or just plain psychotic.Amazing performances though.

And of course Quentin Tarantino is another quirky actor in every role.

My favorite quirky character of recent years has to be Captain 'Shit The Bed' Spalding from House of 1000 Corpses/ Devils Rejects.

Pee Wee Herman is my all time favorite quirky character (I've got a talking Pee Wee Herman doll :)), Dick Tremayne (what a tw*t :D) and Albert Rosenfeld from Twin Peaks movie/series, Henry in Eraserhead, and the dustmite obsessed store keeper in As Time Goes By always makes me smile. Mark Benton in Career Girls is fascinating, he oozes presence.
