Quicky Cleaning for Oil Base Painting Project?

I have put off and put off painting my kitchen cabinets. It was my intentions to sand each cabinet to get a better finish. Not so sure now. My family wants to have Christmas at my house, so I agreed {sure come on over}. Now my procrastination has caught up with me. The cabinets have already been painted with a white oil based paint probably 15+ years ago. Some cabinets were sanded (ok, two), but now I'm up against the clock.

Can I get away with a quick wipe down (no scrubbing) using turpentine or some other product just to remove any build up on the cabinets so the semi-gloss enamel paint adheres better? The cabinets are not bad now, I just prefer a brighter white. Thanks

Do the job right, or you will be doing it again next year. You need to remove the gloss either with sandpaper or chemical remover. They used to make a product called Liquid Sandpaper ask at your local paint/hardware store. ,
