Quick Help about VX800

Hi, I am new to this forum and actually just got my first bike, a Suzuki VX800. It was given to me from a friend of a friend who said he has had it for about 4 years, but he did not have a title. I was wondering where to look on the bike to find the listing number so I can find out exactly what year it is, and also to make sure the bike is not stolen. I do have a few pictures of the bike on my computer that I could post if anyone thinks they could help me figure out what year it is that way. I just need to do a few repairs and figured the year of the bike would help with ordering parts. Any help would be appreciated, as well as recommendations for websites to find parts. Somewhere near the steering head there will be a plate or stamp giving you the serial number and other info. If it's gone, you probably can't title it.

The VIN is stamped on the steering tube, where the triple tree attaches to the frame. A typical VX800 VIN number would read like this: JS1VS51A9Mxxxxxxx.

The 10th digit gives the year. L is 1990, M is 1991, N is 1992, and P is 1993. O is not used, because of possible confusion with the number zero.

J indicates made in Japan, S indicates Suzuki, 1 indicates motorcycle, V indicates a V motor (rather than an inline), S indicates displacement between 750 and 848ccs, 5 indicates a 2-cylinder 4-stroke, 1 indicates it is the first version of the model, A indicates regular production version, 9 is a check digit. The 10th is the year code and the last 7 digits re the sequential serial number.
