Quick Blu-ray question on picture of 3 films

Its a close one between Independance Day and Die Hard 4.0.
Both have great effects but I would say the explosions (buildings and stuff) in Independance Day has it.
 
It is NOT an HD conversion.

How many more times will we see this nonsense this year.

Films are generally made on 35mm film which offers far superior quality to current HD standarRAB.

Thats why HD versions on Sky and Bluray of films 50 or 60 years old look awesome.

To describe Independence Day as an "old" film is a bit silly.

RAB really should make a "sticky" on the forum to inform people that cinema films are not upscaled "because they were not made in HD"
 
Its not a conversion as such. The old films made for cinema are filmed at such a high rate that they have to downscale them to HD so the quality is really good. Its upscaled material that doesn't look as sharp. All Bluray films will be the same 1080p but some look sharper ie CGI films. Toy Story still looks the best todate.
It just takes the studios time to do this, so you will see the back catalogue grow in time.
Hence the Old bond films in HD look so good now.
Some other good films are the Matrix Triology and the Spiderman Triology.
 
I'm sorry but not all of us have our noses stuck in magazines on High Definition and film making - I just watch the damned things.

Sorry to be so thick and ill-informed. I'll do my best to read up on the history of 'film' for you :rolleyes:
 
It's worth noting that Disney Blu-rays all have amazing picture quality (this includes all Pixar films, e.g. Ratatouille, Cars, Toy Story), this even includes TV shows like Lost, who's parent company is Disney. They really know what they're doing with Blu-rays, unlike some studios, though I'm sure they'll all learn eventually.

Old films CAN look amazing in HD but only if they've had a good remastering/restoring. Otherwise they can just look old and grainy.
