Questions unanswered from the world of Cloverfield - Contains Film Spoilers!

Is this the suggestion?

If so, I don't think it means he's literally a baby - if he's been around for thousanRAB of years.
In the production notes they consistently talk about "the monster".

Something of a contradiction there - he's brand new but thousanRAB of years old? In any case, he has to have come from somewhere... unless he's changed...!

In the final pages of the Manga comic, a Tagruato ship is seen towing a large object, which has eyes!!! Is this the same monster as in the film or another that Tagruato are planning to keep?

Iain Lee (Radio DJ) started phoning Quizcall as 'Tony' and giving 'Ghostbusters 2' as the answer to every question. I think it was as a pisstake to all the stupid questions they ask and impossible answers that go with them.

1. The japanese company tried to recover the Satellite, using a disguise of an Oil Rig, this is what awoke the monster from the depths of the sea. There is a fake news report of it somewhere on youtube.

2. It is THE satellite!

3.Only 1, although the monster apparantly is only a baby, so there maybe a mother somewhere else in the world.

4. I thought this one was the most obvious of questions as it is clearly answere din the movie.
The Hammerdown protocol was basically nuking the entire of Manhatten in a bid to destroy the monster. This is what eventually kills the 2 last remaining characters.

5.Slusho?? perhaps

6. Obviously not, seeing as the military seemed just as baffled. When asked what it is the army simply reply "We dont know, but what ever it is... its winning!"

7.That isnt answered, and quite frankly isnt the point of the movie. The movie is the documentation of the escape and attempts of survival of the group of people, not about the monster. Hence why some random american guy doesnt suddenly solve a way of how to destroy the monster and saving the day!

Thanks for your answers, SlashNX.:)

But the rig you're talking about was destroyed well before the satellite crashed! There's nothing on the viral sites about recovering the satellite (it's not theirs after all - it belongs to the Japanese Government), just that they use their satellite to find it.

I'm sure you're right, but given it landed just off the coast (close enough to paddle out to and pick up by hand!) in full view of everyone around at the time, I don;t get what the fuss is about.

I think I agree with this.

Yes, except there were clearly 2 seperate explosions, and neither appeared to be nuclear (no immediate bright flash, no massive pressure blast etc...). However, I suspect I'm being pedantic over this so I'll drop this one.

Surely that just meant that guy didn't know what it was, or his superiors didn't know or hadn't told him. There are some pictures on-line of a massive battle at night beween a Fleet (presumably the US Navy) and something in the water. The second photos shows the destroyed/sinking ships. the suggestion is this happened before the film takes place in whihc case the US Government certainly knew about the monster.

Yes, that's what the film is about. But the massive on-line viral campaign deals with origins of the monster in a round-about sort of way. That is the point of this question and why the thread specifically includes everything outside the film.

JJ abrahm said it in an interview. The falling satellite is what starts of the chain of the events which awakens the monster.
And the monster is a baby, and is just grumpy and confused from being awaken!

This part of the timeline of events before the film tales place is a bit confused. We know from the footage that something falls into the water around the end of April. We assume this is the part of the Japanses satellite. However, according to the Tagruato web page, they are busy looking for the part before the drilling rig is destroyed. There are no dates on the Tagruato page, though. However, on the T.I.D.O Wave web page (TIDO Wave are eco-terrorists targeting Tagruato) they planned an attack on the drilling rig in December (well before the satellite part falls to Earth) and something disasterous happens. I assume this alludes the the rig's collapse. There is obviously some inconsistancy here. The only way I can see to msake the two tie up is if the dates on the TIDO web page are 'real' time i.e. the events of the film took place on 18th Jan in 'real' time which is end of May 'cloverfield' time. Therefore the TIDO Wave planned attack would have taken place early May 'cloverfield' time (end of December 'real' time) which would agree with the overall chain of events. :)

However, I still maintain that as we saw the satellite part fall into the sea no more than a couple of miles off the coast, the whole drilling rig used to recover it is ridiculous (that's in the context of the film, obviously).
