Questions on going from a voice plan to a BB net + voice plan

I ended up trading off my unlocked and hacked AT&T Tilt and got an unlocked AT&T Blackberry Curve 8310. I have just kept the phone with disabled data services to just use it for basic text and voice calls, but I did have a question about considering a possible plan change.

Back in the summer, when I added Unlimited Nights and Weekends... it apparently extended my contract 1 year from when I added that. I had signed up with T-mobile back in Nov of 2007 and did the feature addition in June of 2008, so my "end of contract" date was shifted to June 2009. I have been notified I am finally eligible for a device upgrade, but with the Blackberry Curve 8900/Javelin coming soon, I don't want to squander my upgrade or even have it pushed back. I have spoke to many T-mobile reps in store and over the phone; none of them able to give me a definite answer.... Some say that the feature change will push my upgrade time away from me and suggested I blow the upgrade and get a device from them with a new plan... Then there are some saying it shouldn't play with my contract.

Does anyone who works for T-mobile or have been in the same situation know how this would play out? Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~i had tmobile a 1 point when the pearl came out. I was on a samsung flip bought the pearl @ full retail and changed to a bb plan, it never changed or extended my contract. I sold the phone and went back to a normal phone afterwards and changed the plan back with no contract issues.

Do it all the time. I took the voice plans off a SideKick and a BlackBerry and never had that extend the contract.

I have also bounced back and forth between the 2 data devices in 2007 and never had my contract extended. It was extended again when I bought the 8120 this past May (May 6, 2008). I now have to wait until March 2010 (22 months) to get the 8220 unless I fork out the cash for it before then.

However, I have gone back and forth between a MyFaves voice plan and a basic voice plan. THOSE changes were the ones that affected my contract. I made that mistake back in 2006.

Right before I was eligible for an upgrade in 2007 I went from a MyFaves plan to a basic voice plan. That mistake pushed back my upgrade that I was gonna use to pick up the 8820. I couldn't get it until this past May but I got the 8120 instead.

Data is just an added feature just like adding text messages. The only way for them to extend your contract is if you change your voice plan, or upgrade your handset. You can tell them that you don't want to have unlimited data or the text bundle and it won't do anything other than change your monthly bill. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
