Questions on 600cc/rr bikes.?

I am looking to buy a new 600cc/rr bike here in a couple of weeks possibly.

How much do you think I should possibly pay for one? Preferably, a new or used Honda CBR600RR, or a Kawasaki 600RR from the lot or from Craigslist, I was hoping to not spend more than $4,000-$5,000.

If I buy used how many miles do you recommend I should look for before buying? I have seen some good deals but they have a ton of miles on them, 30,XXX+ for a matter of fact, which I know is a lot for a bike.
 
30k is a lot for a bike in terms of not many people put that many miles on their bike but a well cared for bike can go 100k easy. that said you can find a really nice bike with under 15k fore even less than your top price range.

something else to think about, i like craigslist alot but keep in mind if someone wants to rip you off they can sell you bike with problems and never have to see you again. At a dealership you know wehre they are located and they have a business reputation they must keep up.

one more thing to think about. are you new to bikes? Have you ridden? I used to want a sport bike but after riding one didn't. I didn't like the riding position, there's no storage space and its not good for riding with a passnger. It's all about your riding style and what you want out of a bike but I like longer rides and a sport bike isn't comfortable for longer rides, I like to be able to bring an extra shirt, a redbull, water, etc and like having storage space and i like long rides with my gf on the weekends so for me a cruiser is better. try out if not the same model bike at least the same style bike prior to buying.
