What do you feel when you meet new people and you start talking to them?

Do you often have 'blank' moments, in which you are not sure what to say? And if so, what do you do?

Sometimes I meet new people and I am able to talk to them without breaking the flow of the conversation too much, or getting the feeling that they'd rather talk to someone else.

Sometimes though, I get a lot of these 'blank' periods. I don't know what to say >.< Nothing comes to mind, or I say something stupid. This is a big problem.

Approaching people isn't an issue, but sometimes I feel uncomfortable after doing so, mainly b/c I have those blank periods, so it makes me wonder what impression their getting of me.

I meet new people a nd have full length convos everyday. The easiest thing to do is just the simple thing, "Hi my name is BLAHBLAH." and the convo will go from there. If you need to find something to talk about a compliment is always a good way to get the ball rolling. People like talking about themselves. Appeal to their vanity and let them carry the convo. Just nod along and keep them going. You can keep a person talking about themselves as long as you want to. As soon as that topic even starts to die just give them another compliment.

and SMILE. Smiles are contagious.

Come up with a back up question, and only ask it when your mind goes blank. It'll give you a little time to get back on your feet so to speak while the person is answering the question.
