Questions for Buying Garry's Mod 11?

Well i don't have much money and i was looking forward to buying Garry's mod. but i heard to run Garry's mod u have to have a source like counter-strike or half-life 2. witch i don't really have the money for at the time. so can i buy Garry's mod then pirate half-life 2 and extract it to the Garry's mod files?
