Questions about Sports Photography and Football/Basketball Lens?

I know that for Football (night games) i need to have a high aperature such as f2.8. I have a lens im looking at right now, and its f.28 300mm, but would this work? or is there something else i need to consider?

Tamron 60b 300mm f2.8

This is the exact lens im looking at. Would this work?
What does that mean? will it fit on a Nikon? and is it compatable? i plan to use it for sports photography.... mostly football!

Bro, keep in mind that the 60B is a manual focus lens so the Minolta/Sony and Canon version will not work on dSLR cameras. Of course.

You just need to make sure that the Tamron mount is compatible with your camera.
