I do not want to start off by asking "What's the best Martial Art?" or whatever because that isn't what I intend to ask, if it seems that way, I'm sorry. and I may seem misinformed about certain things I say, the things I list may be obvious to some so yeah...I'm sorry If I offend anyone.

So I was just hoping to get as many people opinion on this as possible:
So I'm 14 years old and living in Sydney, Australia, kind of unfit and not really flexible (by a martial arts standard anyway), and I was wondering if there is a specific Martial art OR combat method which many would consider to be effective in any kind of situation; on the street with one person or multiple, practitioners of other Martial arts, Tournaments etc; A martial art with some high regard for it's Background history concerning its origin or development and use (regardless what country the method was developed);a sense of tradition and ethic - with certain values perhaps in formality or the way you represent yourself ,
If it focuses on most if not all of the main aspects of combat stand up fighting using both hand strikes, kick and even elbows, shins or knees; grapples- manipulating the opponents body through locks and perhaps ground fighting, throws and take-downs-
Teaching you to defend yourself in any situation?

And I know it is how you use the Martial art which is the important thing It was just something I was wondering about.

I am not very fit at all, so would the Art require someone to be fit/conditioned/ muscular before starting the art or could you develop these through practicing the art?
Personally, I am not very aggressive- yes I guess a lot of people would call me a pussy, but I wouldn't really start a fight on my own accord, would the Art require someone to be tough, aggressive, enjoy beating the crap out of someone or whatever?

I don't mind if the Art is not very known of or if it highly heard of and commercially popular, as long it is not TOO commercial, kid friendly or whatever..McDojo's suck.

I know most of this crap will sound stupid to you, But I didn't know else to put this all...Sorry again, but if you do have any suggestions or recommendations It would be awesome to hear them.

Thanks for helping.
Just some other things I forgot to mention..

Also an art which teaches eccentric techniques that aren't obvious but are still practical in any situation.
and that don't really require super-flexible legs and is flexible enough so that anyone of any fitness level can learn but still be tough enough so the practitioner can develop their fitness and flexibility.

Thanks again!

well, i read everything and i think that for self- defence u should go with taekwondo. for grappling and throwing u should refer to judo or brazilian jui- jitsu (both are great). for strikes and street fighting refer to kickboxing and muay thai. and no u dont need to be in perfect conditon in fit wize if u want to start. overtime u will establish the goal of being fit throughout the trainings. all of these that i refered are all great. good luck!
