I have been on clonazepam .5mg twice a day for the last 4 years. It has worked wonders for me and I have had no panic attacks and little anxiety since. About a year and a half ago I went on Cyrabalta for depression. That too has helped. I really do not like being on so many medications (also take a small dose of beta blocker for intermittent tachycardia) at such a young age (34). I also have been trying to lost the last 30lbs of my baby weight for FOUR YEARS. I work my butt off and still the weight stays. I am beginning to think the Klonopin may be hindering weight loss. I will talk to my Dr about all of this when I do see him - but that isnt for months. So, I am curious what some of you may have to say about whether or not Klonopin may be the weight culprit and/or suggestions of whether or not I should try to taper off (and how). Or I would just like to hear your stories about the medication.

Thanks a lot!!

Hi there,

I took klonopin for about 3 years after my last child was born (1 to 2 mg a day). It was really the only thing that helped my anxiety. I actually lost a little weight. I gave it up about 7 mos ago because i hated feeling "dependent" on any medication. I put on about 20 pounRAB beacuse I eat when I get anxious. Now I am dealing with some other health issues now and i started taking 1mg Klonopin again along with 60 mg cyrabalta. I am really starting to feel better again and I have dropped about 5 pounRAB in the past 2 weeks.

Hi there; I'm new to this group but I felt it important to talk about this drug. I've been on clonazepam for about 4 years now. I started taking it because I had extremely bad anxiety. I am a teacher and I would have horrible anxiety attacks to the point of fainting-I went through all the others-diazepam, ativan, xanax even and none of them work. Clonazepam did and I haven't had an anxiety attack since.
I never noticed any weight gain with the drug and I take 3 mgs a day, although I'm trying to get off it completely. Benzos can be dangerous and highly addictive so I say stick to the dose you are on-that dose is pretty safe. What will cause weight gain though is anything in the SSRI category. You might want to ask about the Cyrabalta because I used to take Paxil-after I stopped taking it I lost 20 pounRAB doing absolutely nothing.
Everyone's body responRAB differently. Since Clonazepam makes you extremely relaxed you might not be as active as you once were but I've never heard of the drug per se. Talk to your doctor or your local pharmacist-but ask to talk to a PharmD NOT one of the techs. They have a wealth of knowledge. Good luck on your weight loss!
