Is it OK to be on Kapidex TWICE a day for a long period of time, like one year? I know that Kapidex is meant only to be taken once a day, but my doctor put me on twice a day because I was so sick. Now I'm wondering if it's healthy and if I should stop. I'm scared my symptoms will come back.

Also, are these types of medications known to cause weight gain or in any way disrupt digestion?

Thanks for any info.

These are questions for your doctor. You might also do an Internet search to find out all you can about Kapidex. Just a real quick scan tells me that your twice a day dosing is probably fine and is typical for erosive esophagitis. I take Prilosec - not Kapidex - and asked my ENT a general question about high dosing of PPIs just this week (because I have the same concerns you voiced). He asked if I'm having any irritable bowel symptoms; I told him I wasn't. He told me that my twice daily Prilosec should be knocking my stomach acid down by 75% but that studies have shown this to be safe. As for side effects, yes, I think most PPIs do have intestinal effects listed as potential side effects, and people on this board have commented on their own experiences with this. This seems to be very individual; what is well tolerated by one person can cause big side effects in another.
