Questions about fish?

I'm thinking to go to Oceanside Pier and try fishing there at night, but if anyone knows or has been fishing there before can you give me any advice. Like if I should use glow in the dark sticks, use lures, nightcrawlers, does type of things. And if I should just let my line float in the water or put a sinker. Please response, thanks
