Questions about driving a manual (stick shift) car?

I have been driving an automatic since I was 17 (seven years now). I have been learning how to drive a manual and seem to have the handle of things so far and about ready to be let loose on the open road (LOL I've been practicing on the army base). I just had a few questions I wanted to clear up.

1. When you are reversing in a manual are you applying the same braking principle with the clutch? Eg you are reversing you need to stop you put the clutch in and apply the brake?

2. When you are slowing down and only need to lightly apply the brake eg you are going in second do you engage the clutch then?

In other words whenever you need to brake at all you apply the clutch?

3. You are in 2nd or 3rd and come to traffic lights - do you slow down to 1st & engage clutch & brakes?

4. Is there a major difference between driving a diesel manual and a petrol manual? Its just I've been driving a turbo diesel 4x4 as practice and will be driving a petrol on the weekend.

Just those points are itching at me and I just wanted to clarify.

Thanks in advance!

Really appreciate your answers!
