Hi.

My 17 year old sister has Bipolar II with some kind of complicated very rapidly cyling bipolar. I am sorry but I can not recall the name. It is when they cycle up to 4 times a DAY. I know she is Bipolar II but apparently she also has occasional psychotic features.

She has been suffering since she was 11 with this or younger even. She was only diagnosed quite recently. They haven't gotten her medication cocktail quite right yet and I know it can take a long time and then your body can change too.

My sister is very very intelligent...but I am really worried about her living in dorms. She is sociable but naturally more of a loner anyways, but like I said, has good social skills still. She is not a party girl or anything like that.

She has expressed fear with the whole dorm situation herself actually. The big shared bathroom freaks her out too. She has some OCD as well.

I just feel she would be best in an apartment of her own. I know it would be really expensive but I can't really see her living with other college students for several reasons.

I mean..I'm talking about a girl who ran out of the dentists office and tried to kill herself by running into traffic. She got so lucky she only broke her arm. Amazing.

I really love her and would pay for her stuff out of my own pocket. My mom thinks she needs to get over it and just live in a dorm but I have a feeling it would be a disaster.

So do you think I should get her an apartment? What other options do I have?

I know there are private dorms now at a lot of colleges...but I assume they are extremely hard to get.
