Questions a defense lawyer would ask?

For my law project I need to do a mock trial and pose as a defense lawyer. My case is about a guy who allegedly beat up another man and stole his basketball shoes. The man who was beat up claims to have seen my client but can only judge by the fact he was wearing a blue jacket and a black baseball hat. What are some kind of questions I should ask to the witnesses and the accused?

Um, you should have an awfully easy case if the only evidence is a blue jacket and black.baseball hat. Millions of people wear that. I have a blue Illini jacket on right now because I'm freezing to death in Florida, and my black White Sox cap is on the desk in front of me. What did the other witnesses see?
