Just curious about the following.

I have owned WM PDA's and I know that the screen resolution of most is 240x320. I also know that some WM SmartPhones have a resolution of 240x240.

Can the same programs run on both? How does WM cater for programs designed for 240x320 on a 240x240 screen? Does it add scrollbars? Does the bottom part go missing? Is it the responsibility of the programmer to design programs for both?

Regards

Patrick

My memory on this is rather vague at best but it seems apps were supposed to support both resolutions. I seem to remember that poorly behaved apps had static layouts that would look funny or get cut off at different screen sizes but part of the process of building an app was to make sure it worked at different resolutions. I must admit that the few sample apps I tinkered with were only tested at one resolution but I wasn't releasing them to the public. Back when I was tinkering, resolution wasn't the only problem as apps had to be compiled for each processor. It was x86, mips and risc or something like that.

It is mostly up to the app developer to support various screen resolutions.

I happen to be in the unfortunate camp of users running at 320x320. Many apps fail to work in this resolution, and I either can't see everything, or they simply refuse to work.

I have done a bit of tweaking, and adjusted my DPI of my screen, and thus can see more than normal, which has fixed a few apps that cut off prematurely. However, that option isn't available on all devices.
