question regarding surround sound and the xbox 360

I'm using the component cables that came with the system plugged into my tv. My tv is connected my receiver which is connected to my (5.1) speakers.

Do i need a special audio cable? or will the red/white cables send 5.1 sound?

i had the same problem, i tried but i couldnt get it togo 5.1, so i just went out and bought the monster 360 cable with the digital cable. Now it >*

Grab an optical wire from eBay, monoprice.com etc. Don't pay for monster, it is way overpriced.

the red/white will only give you the right/left channels which your receiver at best (it's actually worse) would multiplex

you just need an optical cable running from your 360 to your receiver

You have any idea how much monster stuff is at cost, most places its marked up like 70%. Its cheaper than the no name good brand stuff.
