Question regarding iPhone 3GS and vodafone unlocking?

ok, i currently have a BlackBerry Storm with vodafone on BillPay. Vodafone have sent me a letter saying i can get an iPhone 3GS for free if i switch my package. If i switch packages and get my free iphone, can i give the iPhone away to a friend who wants to use it on Vodafone Pre-Pay? If they get it unlocked will it work on Vodafone pre-pay? I want to carry on using my BlackBerry Storm with my same sim card
