Question on upgrading from OS 4 to 5.x

Howdy! Quick question for palm os experts. My Sony NR70v suffered a "series of unfortunate events" and...unfortunately it appears to be quite dead. I had the NR70 for over to four years and it was great. The NR70 operates on Palm OS 4. I purchased and acquired a number of hacks and softwares for the NR70, and I'm wondering if I can import them onto a TX. I'm talking about programs like "Bug Me" (note writing) etc.

I'm sure the answer may vary on the program, but I'm just curious before I make the jump. Also, any advice in making the upgrade will be appreciated...

The TX's installation will or should take any programs it feels are not compatible and move them to a backup directory and not allow them to be installed.

My suggestion would be to take and make your own backup of your old data and then clear out the Sony's Palm Desktop application off of your PC. Unistall it via Windows Control Panel and then install the new Palm desktop as clean data and then import your data into the Palm Desktop application. This will keep all errant OS4 stuff away from a tempermental OS5 device.

You'll need to upgrade all (yes all) of your older programs but if you make a back up copy of them and you know their data files - you should be able to bring all of them over either via simple installation or beaming.

Hey Moose. Thanks alot for the info and the suggestions. I'm on the verge of taking the TX plunge..but I'm still missing my old, venerable NR70. I'll look into backing up the data files tonight, but I've got to say..it's a little unnerving to delete the palm desktop without knowing ahead of time that I can import the data files into the TX. Thanks again for responding.
