Are you afraid and thinking of the totalitarian USSR and Maoist China or are you thinking of the democratic socialism of many Scandinavian countries where extremely high taxes pay for some of the highest standards of living in the world? s far as I know, deficit spending is frowned on in Scandinavia. Democratic socialism is not a perfect system but it is very different from the evil totalitarian governments which bastardized the name of socialism and Marxism.
Are people who bandy around the socialist term aware of this vast difference? I despise deficit spending and totalitarianism. A society where many people agreed to pay higher taxes to support the improved standard of living of all seems slightly more workable although I realize many will disagree and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
