i am looking at getting a 2001 kawasaki kx 125... are these good reliable bikes, do they have lots of problems? and how fast will they go, this has a fmf exhaust on it too. what should i look for when getting one and especially a 2 stroke.

Kawasaki's are fast bikes, maybe some of the fastest. Both my friends have them and they are not reliable. They always run into a problem. Getting one with an FMF is not smart either. FMF's are supposedly the best but my last one ruined the 2-Stroke I had. Plus 2-Strokes are being outlawed at more and more tracks. The smart thing to do would be to buy a Crf150f or Crf150f Expert. They go about the same speed and are 4-Strokes. Plus Honda is reliable and there are lots of safe add-ons that wont ruin the engine.

my friends 89 kx125 is very quick...things to watch for....start it up and put your ear down by crank case...listen to see if it has slapping or thumping noise or a grumbling sound...slapping or thump could be worn piston...grumble could be bad bearings....ride bike and make sure it shifts smooth....listen for clicking when driving....check for clicking in all gears...this could be tranny damage...anything else can be fixed...it will smoke when you start up but should level out...2 strokes smoke...it's a fact....and most will get a little oil leakage at front of exhaust...very common and not a problem...watch to see if gas pours out overflow hose when running...this can be fixed but cost about 45-50 dollars for new needle seat valve....it is common, but i would make them take it off price of bike...they are good bikes...I now own a total of six two stroke bikes...all old but they all look brand new.restored by me...i wouldnt want anything but a two stroke...love the torque and sound of them...good luck...make a good buy

Kawasaki's are known to be some of the fastest bikes i haven't heard of them having many problems just do the regular two stroke maintenance routines and your good!
