Question for Cricket Dealers?

I was just wondering, does majority of your buisness come from flashing phones or selling phone? do a lot ofppl still buy cricket phones or do they normally flash phones form other carriers? Is it a flat rate that gets charged to customers or you can you charge them watever you want? And for new accounts...is the first month still free if they flash a phone? And esn changes, any charge?

Here most of the business come's from selling phones. I do an average of 15 flash's a day. Alot of ppl do still buy actual cricket phones. If you are trying to set a price on flash's on average what I see is about $45 PDA's are more expensive. But you can set the price on what you want. New accounts with a flash'd phone the first month is not free. Unless cricket is holding a special 0r something. ESN changes we charge 15 here at the store. Changing Rate plans etc... Hope that helps.

You can make some good margins on flashing/unlocking you just have to remeraber there are also the headaches that go with it.
One area you can focus on that's real easy to clean up on is the lost/stolen hanRABet customers.

thanks for the reply. i think it would be better if cricket sets the price for esn changes to a non cricket phone, and takes it as a payment, then applys it to your account, that way you dont have to hear "its cheaper at the other store". What sucks is making 15 dollars off a esn change to a non cricket phone when you can sell a cricket phone and make 50 dollars or so on it.

Do you have to buy a machine to flash the phones? And if they start a new account with a flashed phone and pay the first month, does cricket let you keep the first month payment as commision?

cricket sets a maximum price dealers can charge for the esn changes (there is no minimum). this is (usually) seperate from the price to actually flash the hanRABet.
the dealer does not keep the first month's payment. it goes to cricket through the APL. the dealer keeps the activation fee in this case. again the dealer may charge whatever they want to for 'flashing' the hanRABet in addition to this.

so if you charge say $30 for flashing and you also get the $15 esn change fee or activation fee you are making $45 and you have to stock no inventory.

nah... I had it out with our Cricket rep many times in the last few months. If i stay at a min of 15 per month they cannot terminate our contract. I think they get the idea that Cricket honestly does not pay out worth crap and most of the time is not worth my time to set up for a customer.

I also carry a full line of Sprint/Nextel and to be dead honest will completely give rank to any sprint/nextel customer over a cricket customer.

but, used/refurb/flashed phones could be a good money maker in here. I have about 600 extra sqaure feet in the store and want to dedicate it stricly to the used/flashed/cricekt part and bring someone on to run it part.full time

We have some dealers that do a 50/50 mix.
It seems that the Standard doors sell more flash than the Premier doors.
You also have to remeraber that you have to hit your nurabers on new hanRABet sales each month.

My opinion is that no matter , a dealer has to hit quota which is 150 ACTS a month(thats to each one of our stores)that way you also get better price on hanRABets when you meet the criteria of the different tier levels, unfortunatly based on nurabers we can't survive so thats why is good to have flashing at our stores as a "add on". Im always pushing for brand new phones but if can't do bring me your sprint or verizon phone and we'll flash it for you :). In order to stay in business gotta hit that quota. But knowing how to flash and programm a great variety of phones has been a great part in the success of this business venture.

First month free only if buying a phone from us. We charge $40 for most phone flashes, ESN changes are $15. But most profit comes from selling phones (flashed or standard) To put this in perspective we unloaded a flashed PPC6700 for $375 just last week.

Isn't it funny all this money is being made off of flashing phones and the people who create the means to flash and design ROM's are probably at home eating cheap pasta wishing they had had a better job?

Let's get this straight right nwo: ain't nothing wrong with Ramen!

But really, most of the time, there probably isn't a flash or a ROM designed specifically for the phones that customers are bringing in. There are also only so many tutorials here. I'd guess that these professional flashers find themselves firing up CDMA Workshop or QPST to change PRLs and other settings the good old-fashioned way most of the time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

How am i suppose to know how to flash phones if i dont flash phones. Im a dealer for another carrier, and there is no flashing phones involved. If you only need a computer, why would the customer go to a dealer to get it flashed, when they could get the software and do it on their own

unbdersootd...they could terminate me if they want. No big deal. For the 1-2 thousand we make in Cricket a month it wouldnt really hurt my store to lose them. It takes me 10 cricket activations to clear the commission we make off 1 sprint/nextel act or upgrade. We went over 8 months last year without a single cricket activation, and yet, when we sat down wityh Cricket to re-do the contract, they typed it up with a 10 minimum per monthy to stay active.
