Question for both breast feeding and bottle feeding mothers? Not a debate?

Ok, so sometime back I was at the dog park. A couple I knew from a few other times of them having brought their dog there also brought their baby. I went up to talk to them. For some strange reason they weren't talking to me, which was very strange, since they talked to me the other times. The guy got between me and the lady. I then saw that she was breast feeding, and had some covering on her, so it wasn't like she was showing anything, anyway. Breastfeeding in public doesn't bother me at all.

What gives? If women(which I do) consider breastfeeding in public fine, why do they go all private and standoffish and whatever when they do it? Or is this only a certain few? To be honest, I was rather confused.
The guy wouldn't let me go near the woman, so I didn't push the issue.
I should mention I'm a lady.

To the second poster..Heaven only knows WHAT your cousin saw in that jerk. No way in the world would I stop breastfeeding for that reason.
I kinda figured me going up to them starting a conversation should have told them I have no problems with breastfeeding in public.
Second poster again..I also hope your cousin didn't have any more kids with that loser.
 
I breastfeed in public but always cover-up! Maybe she wants to breastfeed but is uncomfortable with the idea of someone seeing her!
If I was that uncomfortable with it I wouldn't be able to go out!
 
Wow... they sound REALLY insecure about the whole breast feeding thing.

I would breastfeed while grocery shopping- no one knew. I'd carry on conversations and walk around... I even nursed at while eating at restaurants. ONE TIME when I was a new mom, we were at denny's and I was still getting the hang of the whole nursing-in-public thing, my son was like... two months old maybe, and JUST as my milk let down he let go of my boob! I squirted all over the seat... lol. Luckily no one saw, but it would have been PRETTY humiliating if they had.

Its possible she's a new mom and just not very good at the whole process yet- and that can be quite embarrassing for some women- milk squirting, nipples showing- kinda stressful.

I wouldnt take offense to it- but I definitely agree that its kinda odd and a bit extreme... lol. Its just breastfeeding- not sex.

My guess is that she's a new mom.
 
That's weird. I breastfeed everywhere without a problem. It could be that her husband is uncomfortable with it, or it could be that she is, and he is just trying to make sure it isn't more uncomfortable. I love to see women nursing in public, it's so encouraging to other young (or not young) moms.
