Question: E61 / E61i memory differences

Hi,

I searched the forum a few times but wanted to start a thread for this topic only.

Does anyone know why Nokia lists the E61's FREE memory as being 75mb and the E61i's FREE memory being "up to 50mb"? Someone posted somewhere that it was due to better memory management from within in the S60v3 OS. Someone else speculated that it was due to a newer or slightly faster processor on the newly released E-Class phones, the E61i, E65 and E90 (although we all KNOW that the E90 DOES, in fact, have a faster processor).

I'm asking this question because I'm going to be purchasing myself a new phone within the next couple of days and can't decide on whether to get a Nokia E65, a Nokia E61 or to wait on the Nokia E61i.

The main uses for the phone (other than typical phone calls and calendar etc) will be for browsing the internet (EDGE and WiFi both) and chat as well as heavy email usage. My main concern is that I'd like to have the highest surplus of free RAM available to eliminate memory errors and unneeded program closings by the OS and LAG FREE browsing.

If the processors on the E65 or E61i are indeed faster and memory management is better then I will go with one of them, despite their having "less" free memory (50mb as opposed to 75mb). If the general consensus says that total internal mem doesnt matter as long as FREE memory after boot is higher, or that the processor IS the same as the E61, then I may end up going with the regular E61.

I really like the MICRO memory as opposed to the MINI as in the E61. I also really like the new D-PAD as opposed to the JOYSTICK. I'm just trying to do some last minute research and would REALLY appreciate some of you people's insight.

Thanks up front!

Both the 75mb and "up to 50mb" that you see for the E61 and E61i are not the amount of available RAM. Those numbers are for the internal memory. Both phones have anywhere from 20-22mb of free RAM on a clean boot.

Interesting. While what you say sounds correct, it makes one wonder why there would be less memory on a newer device. What do you think?
