My friend and I are having a slight argument about burning calories. He has an exercise bike and I have a treadmill. When I jog at a regular rate on the treadmill, it says I have burned about 25 to 30 calories after running about a 1/4 mile. I have generally accepted this rate to be fairly close to accurate. I have always believed it takes a fair workout to burn a significant amount of calories. My friend on the other hand, riding his exercise bike at a relaxed pace, burns (according to his calorie meter on his $99 wal-mart exercise bike) about 70 calories in 7 minutes of riding. He says all the equipment he uses at the gym is closer to reflecting his calorie figures, and that mine has to be way off and I am burning a lot more calories than I think I am. I on the other hand think the equipment he's using is somehow inflating the actual figure of calories burned, and my figures are closer to accurate. Any opinions??
