question about the mta fare hike?

Depends on New York State legisulaters if they does not give bailout,...
In City, buses, subways, Staten Island Railway will go up by 23% including Access-A-Ride Paratransit while MTA Long Island Bus will jump by 75% to $3.50 and Able-A-Ride Paratransit for Long Island will be $6.00.
MTA Fare Hike will also affect Westchester County DOT's Bee-Line Bus and RIOC's Roosevelt Island Tramway because they share MetroCard. Metro-North, Long Island Railroad, Bridge & Tunnels will be going up by 23% also like Verrazaro Narrows Bridge will cost $14 one way. Also Rockaway Rebates Discount for Cross Bay Bridge toll problem will be elimated as well.

Also if it does happen, MTA Long Island Bus will be different fare and Unlimited MetroCard will not be accepted on any MTA Long Island Bus. Only coins or Pay-Per-Ride. Transfer fee for Long Island Bus will be elimated.

Not only fare hike, there are also plan for devasting service cut on buses, subways like (W), (Z) elimated, (G) no longer on Queens Blvd, (M) no longer in southern Brooklyn and no non-stake Belmont Park service.
 
It has not happen yet. However, on May 31st the base bus and subway fare in New York City will raise from $2 to $2.50. Discounted unlimited ride MetroCards, used on the subway and bus system in New York City will also rise from the current prices.

1-day MetroCard -- $9.50 (from current $7.50)
7-day MetroCard -- $31 (from current $25)
14-day MetroCard -- $59 (from current $47)
30-day MetroCard -- $103 (from current $86)

Fare on Metro-North and the Long Island Railroad will rise on June 1st. The same goes for tolls on all MTA Bridge and Tunnel crossings.
