Question about the Gundam series.

Well I'm somewhat catching up to Gintama on Crunchy Roll and I was thinking of something else to watch in the future. And I've been thinking that I have not seen Gundam since 00's first three episodes(kind of stopped due to sleeping early on Mondays ^^;.) but I never seen Gundam Seed Destiny either, but I keep hearing that it's downright terrible.

Anyone want to fill me in on what series I should watch? =D Suggestions of any kind are great.

Seen-
-G Gundam
-Gundam Wing
-Gundam Seed

If you don't mind old animation, go watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy. Then Zeta, etc.

Or if you want to stay Alternate Universe, Gundam X is a great adventure-type series that works in multiple arcs that ties up.

Or Gundam Wing since that's available everywhere.

Yeah, stay away from Destiny. There's Kill-Em-All Tomino, and then there's Flasrabroadack-it-all Fukuda.

YouTube.com/Shows has the first 25 episodes of Gundam 00 up legally to stream.

I would also suggest the Movie Trilogy for the first series, the 50 Zeta episodes, and then Char's Counterattack.

Also available are 8th MS Team and War in a Pocket, these two being relatively show OVAs that focus on small segments of the OYW.

My favorite Gundam is G Gundam. If you liked the hot-bloodedness of Gurren Lagann, you'll love G Gundam.

Wing was also really good. I'd recommend that too.

G Gundam is really good. I tried watching the first SEED special but couldn't understand the plot at all, and then the dialogue in DWG2 just plain doesn't make any sense.

I've not seen Wing in a while, but...it sort of steals its ending from another story...so I'm not sure what to think about it. O.o

You should watch the 50 episodes series version of Seed which DOES make sense instend the badly edited TV specials. And I think that Wing did the whole drop giant object on eath plot better than Char's Counterattack ever did.

Turn-A is a good series, but it's better to save it until you've had some experience with the other timelines (to catch a few of the references and get a better idea of how it's supposed to fit in).

Wing is OK - not terribly deep in terms of characterization or action, but it's plenty watchable. It's the kind of show that you can kinda sit back and watch without feeling like you're too invested in what's going on on-screen. Make sure you watch Endless Waltz afterward, though.

X is probably the most sadly underappreciated entry in the franchise.

And then there's the original trilogy, which fits pretty solidly into the "must watch" list for anybody who's interested in giant robot shows in general.

SEED (the first series) is kinda okay in pace up till past 26, where it really gets rockin. But it's more of a character drama than a big robot show about war.

Well not exactly, if you're gonna watch UC chronologically here's the actual list
0079 Movie 1
08th Team 1-4
0079 Movie 2
08th Team 5-8
0079 Movie 3
The rest of 08th MS Team
War in a Pocket
Igloo
0083 Stardust Memory
Zeta Gundam
ZZ Gundam
Char's Counterattack

Edit: Both F91 and Victory Gundam are standalone stories with no relationship to the original UC since they take place years after Char's Counterattack and have little to no connection to it's predecessors

I think you should go in this order-

First: Gundam Wing - The series moves at a solid, consistent pace. Going with Wing first means that you'll be less likely to grow disinterested, which happens with Gundam shows sometimes. Also watch Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz.

Second: If you liked the characters and story in Gundam Wing, then go to Gundam 00. Both shows share a lot of common thematic elements. If you just liked the mecha and armed conflict, then go to Mobile Suit Gundam and watch the movie trilogy. If you didn't like anything about Gundam Wing at all, go for broke and watch G Gundam.

Third: If you picked Gundam 00, then you'll probably want to watch Gundam 08th MS Team. It'll be your introduction to the Universal Century continuity. If you picked the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy and liked it, then watch the Z Gundam movie trilogy, followed by ZZ Gundam and Char's Counterattack. If you do that, you'll have seen the "actual" main Gundam continuity. You should try to catch 0080 and 0083 afterwarRAB too. If you watched and liked G Gundam, then try out Gundam X.

Honestly, watch the Zeta Gundam series first. They skip two very important parts in the movies (Speech of Dakar, Mt. Killomanjaro) that was very important for Char and Kamille.

I would watch it after, if you want a different ending. For a 50 episode series, Zeta is very well-paced with little filler.

Seriously, avoid the Zeta Gundam movies like the plague, not only are they poorly put together put they completely destroy continuity but omitting ZZ with it's ending, only watch the movies after watching the tv series.

Bah, the changes are not catastrophic as you make them sound. The core story is very much intact, ZZ is not much of a loss, and I don't view Kilimanjaro as very necessary. It basically had Kamille experiencing something he had already been through earlier in the series.

The movies reflect Tomino's more positive attitude, which many fans seem to resent. But Zeta wasn't good by virtue of its darkness alone. I don't think purist fans realize how much they're damning Zeta with the implication that Zeta is diminished by having an ending that is less merciless, even though it's far from bloodless.

Not necessarily. It would just demand an alternate interpretation to make up for that and still lead to an equivalent CCA status quo.

In the worst case scenario, someone could merely come up with an excuse for Axis to turn back.
