Question about testing first thing in the morning?

Ok, I work 3rd shift...so should I test in the morning when I get off work, or should I come home and sleep and then test when I get up?
Just curious, I know they say test first thing in the morning, but does that apply to people who are on different shifts? Sorry if this a stupid question...I just want to know when's best.....
