Question about S50 saddlebags?

So, I was thinking about purchasing the Suzuki rigid-mount saddlebags but I'm not clear on how they attach/detach. Can they be conveniently detached/reattached w/o having to break out tools, contort oneself under the bike, etc.?

Since convenient removal is an issue, I suppose this does beg the question: why don't I just get the throwover-style bags? What are the pros and cons of the throwover style? Any issue if a passenger must sit on the throwover strap? Any other issues?

Lastly, was considering getting a bag from Biker's Friend. I'll be attaching it to my S50's sissy bar luggage rack. Anyone else have one of these? What size did you buy for safe/practical stowage on aforementioned rack?

Thanks for any tips!

P.S. Thank you to Dr. Bob and others for your advice last year. I picked up a light blue '06 S50 and am loving it. :bluethum:

Rigid mount bags require tools and the saddle bag supports.
Definitely not something you can just remove and put back on without tools.

Yes, the Suzuki rigid mount bags bolt on, and are not quick release.

Check out the leatherlyke hard bags. They come off in seconds by pulling a couple pins, and unlike the offerings from Suzuki, they lock.

I note that Leatherlyke says their model for the S50/Intruder is only for bikes up through '04. I wonder if there is any real difference between the '04 and '05 - '07 models?

The 49-state 2005-2007 are basically identical to the pre-2004s, other than the fake air cleaner on the side of the motor, the turn signals being a little different and the sissy bar being optional. The 2005-07 California model is different, so you can't put the leatherlyke bags (or any other rigid bags) on a California model due to the location of the emissions canister on the side of the rear fender.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I too am looking for some saddlebags for a Suzuki Boulevard. Not an S50 but an S83. The bikes are very similar. I checked out Leatherlyke.com, and they have bags for the S83, but it looks like you would have to relocate the turn signals. Plus the cost ($429) is a lot more than I want to pay.

Is it typical to have to relocate the turn signals to accomodate saddlebags? The only bags I've located so far that don't appear to interfere with the trn signals are the genuine Suzuki rigid mount models - they are 11" x 10" x 3.5", so are very small.

Yeah, I got the OE hard bags, you have to remove two bolts inside to remove the bags. You "can" fashion your own quick release system. I can't even get to my helmet lock, it is under the bags, so it's worthless to me.

You will have to relocate the signals for LeatherLyke bags...but they look great. The cost is a 1 time thing...and they give you lockable bags which is something not a lot of other bag makers give you....plus you can remove the bags quickly and not have saddlebag guards left on the bike.

Check my sig for pics...

I was leary about the cost of Leatherlykes, too. But I'm glad I bought them. The turn signal relocation was really no big deal, and I like them better where they are now.

You have to relocate the tail-lights....not really that difficult at all, and I like the look much better. You then have to attach the hardware to the side rails (one peg of which fits into the position of the stock tail-lights), which act as quickrelease for the bags. The instructions were really pretty good, and it wasn't that hard. I'm glad I invested the money.
