Question about running/biking?

I was told by a friend that if I wanted to improve my endurance with running I should try jumping onto my bike after completely exhausting myself on the treadmill.

I'm curious as to whether this advice has any validity to it? If it doesn't I wouldn't mind hearing some other suggestions for improving endurance.

(Don't say "eat right")
