Question About Roaming

Can somebody explain how roaming works on T-Mobile/GSM phones. I have an 8320 and my plan includes roaming but when ever I am out of TMo coverage my phone goes to SOS and only allows me to make Emergency calls, it does not allow me to make phone calls or use data. If I manually switch networks to At&t or another GSM carrier it shows SOS as well. Does GSM roaming not work like CDMA roaming where the device automatically switches to another network and allows calls and data (ie. sprint to verizon and vise versa). Or do I have a problem. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Well it all depends on the surrounding networks that you can roam too.

Also see if you settings for your Mobile Network are set to find other Networks Automatically.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have it set for Automatic and it will find AT&T but it goes straight to SOS after it connects. Its just frustrating because my plan includes roaming but when I can't use it if I'm out of the network. or have a poor/weak signal.

where are you located? Usually it should just hop from network to network. If you're in a really bad location then it would explain it just dropping to SOS. In my basement it will just drop the network from time to time. It could just be losing signal.
