HI,
One of my receivers is dead. Tried to find the problem for many hours and did not. I got really angry. A guy who sells receivers at the local swapshop gave me a few bucks for it. I kept the s-card because I don't want anybody buying anything at my expenses :-). He wanted to give me a few more bucks for the card but I finally kept it.
At the same place, I can buy old receivers that come without a s-card for very cheap price (15-25$ for 2700 or 3100).
Would expressvu activate one of those receivers using my s-card that was previously activated with the dead receiver that is no longer on my bell account???
If possible, do I simply put in the s-card and call 1888skydish?
I do not want to buy a receiver and get stuck with it.
Thanks in advance.

If you sold the receiver whithout the card the person who got it won't be able to do anything with it. Sell him the card and call to deactivate the receiver from your account.

It will be impossible for us to activate the new receiver you bought with your existing smartcard and buying a new smartcard will cost you 69$, so at that price might as well buy a new receiver.

By the way you can buy refurbish receiver for 49$ + 13$ shipping&handling

Good to know :-)

About the refurbished, where are they advertised??? I haven't seen it anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

you could get a jtag and jkeys and transfer your old receivers id and boxkeys to a another old receiver, then just pop it your smartcard and subscribe as before.

AEV, some good advice and an answer that is wrong in just so many ways......

To say that without the card he can do nothing with it is a typical Ex Vu response, the official line. Reallity is different, with the addition of a different card that receiver can be used for the reception of Ex Vu or Dishnetwork programming for free, Piracy. It really defies logic that Ex Vu would not buy back all used receivers to stop them falling into the hands of Pirates.

Deactivating it from the account, now that is great advice. Might also want to tell Ex VU, just who it was sold to as well.

A new 4100 is only $99, it had "s" Video output and Dolby, if that is something you wanted.

I meant he won't be able to legally use the receiver whithout the card...

And for your info Bell as a buy back programm...a;tought you probably could get more selling it youself!

Thanks for your answers.
I think I'll get new receivers... Too much problems.

I let the first one at the swap shop and bought a replacement that the guy told me would work with my card (he said he cloned it). Called bell to have it reactivated. The software was not the same so I explaned everything to the lady. She told me that what the guy did was not legal. I crapped in my pants. I returned to the swap shop to try to get my money. Finally, the guy kept the old receiver that did not work anymore as payment for the time he spent cloning my old machine. I kept the card.
The old receiver won't work anymore because it never finds satellite signal... That is the reason why I wabnted it replaced... So It should not be hacked.

I can't say the name of the seller to bell since I do not know it... Also, the guy do not seem happy to speak with me anymore :-) So I think I'll leave it this way.

To continue with my bad luck, I tried to reactivate my other old unit that was not used for many months ( a dual tuner took it's place). After many calls to bell, it still does not work. Card simply won't update. It is stuck at rev640 instead of 646 (in my other receivers). I tried all the tricks the csr's told me to try but does not do no good. I guess I should have left it plugged in the kids room even if they were then too young to control it...

Anyway, I'm quite tired so I think I'll sell the other receiver and the two cards to buy a new 4100. hate to spend anymore money on tv... It looks like more and more cheaper to exchange my receivers for videotron ones.

Anyway, thanks for your time and suggestions.

See that is the problem with Express Vu, easier to leave than stay. I suspect it will happen to me when my contract is up.

2003EM what model of receiver do you have?

And what have attempted so far to "update" the software?

It was a 2700, E582. The one that is completely broken was an older one.
First, used web,
Then the system that has to recognize my voice and never worked. It simply does not work with my voice...
then called csr to send hit, then said to do check switch
next csr said to unplug for 1-5 mins then plug back
then said to leave it this way for a while since the time it takes for card to update is longer apparently to the same extent of time it did not see the screen. also told me to check signal on a few transponders...
Many calls.
I had to call from home at first, work, line in resto ect. to have those silly responses. I'm certain that if I had not told the csr that I was waiting in a resto line last time, he might have told me to try the card in my genitals to see if it would help.
It looks like they think that the only thing I have to do when I'm home with kids is to call them to fix problems...
I have the feeling that when I call from work, I'm paid to do it. It makes me less angry then to do it in my free time (losing time with family) and having to pay for the service.
Got to say that service have been mostly excellent for the 10 years I've been with Bell. Must be my receivers that are too old.
I'll get a new receiver and hope it'll solve problems for a few years.
I'll sell my 2700 and 2 cards in the garage sale we'll be doing next weekend.
